Maestro Benichou has invited Maestro Osvaldo Ferreira as Guest Conductor. This is a first for the
MSO, and indeed a noteworthy event! Osvaldo Ferreira is Principal Conductor of the Orquestra Sinfonica do Parana, one of Brazil’s great orchestras.
He will conduct the three performances of the MSO Spring Concert in March 2012. To enhance even more the powerful and impressive MSO Sound,
Maestro Benichou is bringing several world-renowned soloists to perform with our talented
musicians. The 2011-2012 Season Premiere, “FALL in Love” opens with our own Principal Clarinet,
Edna Huang, in Weber’s Concertino Op.26. Baltimore Symphony Concertmaster Jonathan Carney makes
his third solo appearance with the MSO in a most sensitive rendition of Bruch’s Violin Concerto
No. 2. December’s “Holiday Joy” celebration will showcase singers from the Morgan State University
Opera Workshop. In the Spring Concert “Great Sax”, Osvaldo Ferreira conducting, Gary Louie, will
amaze you with his alto saxophone virtuosity in Glazunov’s Concerto and Milhaud’s Scaramouche.
The Season Finale “Stefan Returns!” is a great promise all in itself! Stefan Jackiw will thrill you
with his brilliant interpretation of Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy. With Dvorak’s Symphony No.8, it will
mark a glorious end to our 2011-2012 Season Series. The following pages display Biographies & Photos of remarkable musicians, chosen for their talent and virtuosity. Their participation in our performances is most gratifying and we wish to express here our gratitude for their contribution to the MSO eclectic experience.
