With “Music Is Magic!” the Mid-Atlantic Symphony ushers in its fifteenth year, and Maestro Benichou’s seventh season as its Music Director.
Mr. Julien Benichou’s programming brings great music and outstanding soloists together for you to enjoy, to be inspired by and to enrich your lives.
Our orchestra has grown in stature each year, and we look forward to sharing our love for music with you throughout the 2011-2012 season.
Maestro Benichou has invited Maestro Osvaldo Ferreira as Guest Conductor. This is a first for the MSO, and indeed a noteworthy event!
Osvaldo Ferreira is Principal Conductor of the Orquestra Sinfonica do Parana, one of Brazil’s great orchestras. He will conduct the three
performances of the MSO Spring Concert in March 2012. This engagement speaks well of the reputation of the MSO and of the
high professional
standing of Mr. Ferreira. Mr. Benichou’s growing reputation as a versatile conductor is illustrated by several recent invitations to conduct
various orchestras in the United States and other countries. He has been sought after to conduct New Music concerts and his work with youth
symphony orchestras is noteworthy.
Donald Harrington and Marlene Ott are the new Co-Presidents. We look forward to their leadership and guidance to steer our
ship out
of economically challenged waters into promising territory this coming season. We are proceeding with a restructuring of the
administrative branch of the organization, to raise its efficiency and strengthen its ability to ensure the budget resources the MSO
requires to continue
to flourish in the years ahead.
To enhance even more the powerful and impressive MSO Sound, Mr. Benichou is bringing several world-renowned soloists to perform with our
talented musicians. The Season Premiere, “FALL in Love”, will present Edna Huang, our own Principal Clarinet in Weber Concertino Op. 26.
Baltimore Symphony Concertmaster Jonathan Carney makes his third solo appearance with the MSO in a most sensitive rendition of Bruch’s Violin
Concerto No. 2. December’s “Holiday Joy” celebration will showcase singers from Morgan State University Opera Workshop. The Spring Concert
“Great Sax” brings guest conductor Osvaldo Ferreira. Gary Louie will amaze you with his alto saxophone virtuosity in Glazunov’s Concerto and
Milhaud’s Scaramouche. The Season Finale “Stefan Returns!” is a great promise all in itself! Stefan Jackiw will thrill you with his brilliant
interpretation of Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy. With Dvorak’s Symphony No.8, it will mark a glorious end to our 2011-2012 Season Series.
The MSO is entering a new, momentous phase in its growth and reputation. The impressive performance of the orchestra under the baton of
Mr. Benichou is resonating across the mid-Atlantic region in a glowing fashion. It is gratifying to see our fans faithfully attend our
concerts, bring their friends and new patrons, to witness growing audiences, and to read press reviews eloquently praise our exciting
performances. The MSO is definitely making its mark in the world of classical music in the mid-Atlantic region and consistently enhancing its
reputation as a respected regional symphony orchestra.
